Crayfish Surveys
Crayfish Surveys
Our biologists are qualified to survey for threatened and endangered crayfish in West Virginia, Kentucky, and Virginia including the Big Sandy Crayfish (Cambarus callainus) and Guyandotte River Crayfish (Cambarus veteranus).
The Big Sandy Crayfish is federally listed as threatened and is found in the upper Big Sandy drainage in southern West Virginia, southwestern Virginia, and eastern Kentucky. The Guyandotte River Crayfish is federally listed as endangered and can be only be found in Pinnacle Creek and Clear Fork stream in Wyoming County, West Virginia. In 2022, the USFWS designated 362 stream miles as Critical Habitat for the Big Sandy Crayfish habitat and 84 stream miles as Critical Habitat for the Guyandotte River crayfish.
BioSurvey Group has successfully completed endangered crayfish projects for the West Virginia Division of Highways, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, municipalites, and private industry. In projects where federally listed crayfish were located, we have also successfully navigated Section 7 Consultation including the preperation of Biological Assessments.
